Clever Blog Post Title

Pops complained in the comments yesterday that these pictures are too dark and he can't see the band and their instruments well enough. I happen to think that they are perfectly exposed for what they are. Plus I was working in a thick crowd with a 128 MB card, half a battery, and no flash (thought it would be cumbersome and impolite).

Here's two more shots, the last I'll post. But I think the blur and the lighting works in them. If I adjusted the levels in any of these to show more detail they would look cloudy and lose that bar stage mood.

I like these photos too, just as they are, and I especially like your Clever Blogpost Title! Might try that one myself.

Okay, okay, I give. I can see your point about what you wanted to express. Maybe they are good but mysterious pictures of late night events in a Chicago club but not so great at communication the details of this performance. I had an old fart Jesuit teacher in college who was known to repeatedly insist that "de gustibus non est disputandum" - there's no disputing taste. He meant his own, of course. The kids took a broader view. You pays your money and you makes your choice.

On the other hand (ahem), no complaining about equipment and lighting conditions. A teacher once drummed into my head that a photographer is responsible for everything in the frame. Point well taken.

Yeah you're right on that last point. But the fact that I wasn't using a flash and the crowd making it tough to get close explain why I got the kind of shots I did. The memory card and battery thing were me not being prepared. I was kinda venting/kicking myself about that point.
