I ran across this bridge over the Chicago River at Belmont yesterday, and I'm pretty sure I couldn't discern any water line on the trees as you see here from this morning. So it must have peaked yesterday. There was some pretty bad flooding in neighborhoods along a branch of the river a little upstream from where this was.
Last weekend's rain didn't seem that remarkable to me since it wasn't torrential by any means. But I guess its constancy was enough to cause the flooding and mark Saturday as the day when the most rain fell in Chicago since records were began in 1870-something.

I saw some weather graphic on TV that the official total rainfall here was not quite 4 inches but that it was 8 in. in Chicago. Must have gone on for hours and hours. I'm happy that we are far above any creeks etc.
I hope it doesn't do flood damage... but it's such a pretty shot with the blue water and sky and the last brilliant green of the trees...
